Dr. Vadalà is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome (UCBM), Italy, in the Dept. of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery leading the Spine Surgery Division. He is also the head of the Laboratory for Regenerative Orthopaedics at UCBM focused on developing and translating new biological therapies included stem cell-based therapies in Spine Surgery. Over his past 20 years of education and scientific production, Dr. Vadalà devoted his career to acquire a multidisciplinary knowledge and to organize a multitask network of collaborators to develop new biological therapies included stem cell therapy for the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration moving toward human clinical trials. In 2013 and 2018 he received the AOSpine Europe Young Research Award, one of the most prestigious European award for research in the Spine Surgery field, for his enthusiastic research on IVD regeneration. In 2016, he received the Best Paper Award at the annual meeting of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS). He served as Treasurer (2014-18) and President (2020-22) of the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS). He is the Treasurer (2023-26) of the ISSLS. He published over 115 paper in major international peer-reviewed scientific journals, including multidisciplinary scientific journals with an H-index of 31 (scopus). He received several national and international research grants in the field of regenerative orthopaedics and spine surgery as PI and he is Unit coordinator of the RESPINE and iPSpine EU-projects.
Prof Dr Howe Tet Sen
Professor Howe Tet Sen is a highly regarded senior consultant within SGH’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has an impressive clinical career spanning four decades. Professor Howe was the first Singaporean fellowship trained Orthopaedic Sports Medicine surgeon after completing a Sports Medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. On his return however, he led the Trauma Service for 20 years as there was a greater need for his services there. Professor Howe has held many leadership roles over the years including Director of Trauma Service from 1996 – 2016, AO Singapore’s Director of Education from 1997 – 2000, Chairman of the AO Scientific Committee from 2000 – 2005 and Chairman of the Emergency Operating Committee from 2001 – 2006. Professor Nicola Maffulli is a world-famous Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Honorary Professor for Sports and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary University of London. His specialities include Sports Trauma Injury, Joint Replacement, Hand & Rheumatoid Surgery, & Adult & Paediatric Orthopaedics, the latter including Deformity Correction & the Management of Degenerative Joint Disease in young people. He organised the surgical services at the London Olympics, covering all of the training and competition venues. In addition, he organised the medical supervision of the Judo and Wrestling competitions for London 2012. He is Editor-in-Chief of two high-impact, peer-reviewed scientific journals, and has published more than 1,000 scientific articles, being the most widely-published and cited orthopaedic surgeon in the world, all whilst integrating clinical practice with scientific research to produce unsurpassed clinical outcomes. He has described more than 40 new surgical techniques in the field of knee, foot and ankle, and sports surgery. Many have now become the standard of practice in these fields. Soft tissues problems constitute the major focus of Professor Maffulli’s research, which has resulted in him being awarded the title of ‘King of Tendons’ by the Italian lay press. Professor Maffulli is currently involved with a number of multi-disciplinary projects, both in the UK and overseas. In London, he has been the Chair and Chief of Service of The Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine, the only such academic centre in the UK, leading both the clinical and academic aspects.

Prof Datuk Dr Sabarul Afian Mokhtar

Dr. Sabarul Afian Mokhtar is the Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery (Spine) at the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He is the founding member and the past President of the Malaysia Spine Society. He is the council member and head of Special Interest Group for Education, Malaysian Orthopaedics Association. He obtained his Medical Degree and Orthopaedic Specialty training from UKM. He continued subspecialty training in the field of Spine Surgery with Professor Shoichi Kokubun at Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan and a PhD Clinical Fellow for Spine Surgery at the Australian School of Advanced Medicine, Macquarie University, Sydney. He was the pioneer orthopaedic surgeon working and doing research at the Macquarie University Hospital and completed his PhD entitled “Development of a Model for Assessment and Predicting Outcome in Surgery for Degenerative Disorder of the Lumbosacral Spine” where his research and practices mainly focused on the ageing spine. He is currently the head of Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. He has served as the Deputy Dean at Faculty of Medicine UKM, Deputy Director of UKM Medical Centre and Deputy Director, Pro Vice Chancellor of Medical and Health Campus UKM. He is actively involved in the undergraduate and postgraduate education at both national and international level by being the member of the National Orthopaedic Curriculum Committee (NOCC) and ASEAN Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Education Committee. He has established the Fracture Liaison Service in Malaysia which was awarded the Silver Award in 2019 and Gold Award in 2022 by the International Osteoporosis Federation (IOF). He has presented and authored in a significant number of scientific papers that are testimony to his clinical and research interests in spinal disorders, pain management and osteoporosis. He has been conferred with numerous awards for his services, academic and research achievement in the field.

Dr. Suhail completed multiple fellowships, including the APOA hip training fellowship scholarship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2004 and the AO Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship at Stadtchiches Klinikum, Karlsruhe, Germany in 2003. Prof Wan Faisham is a faculty in the department of orthopedics, in School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has sub-specialized in musculoskeletal oncology and traumatology. Currently he is one of the leaders in the field of oncology applicable to sarcomas in Malaysia. He obtained his medical graduation from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1994. Subsequently completed his post-graduation from Medical School of Universiti Sains Malaysia in year 2000. He is a Professor and consultant surgeon in USM; He is one of the pioneer’s member for limb salvage surgery for orthopaedic cancer. He was involved with numerous clinical research and multidisciplinary collaboration in oncology. For his contributions he was awarded 5-distinguished awards and became the International advisor to Asian Pacific Musculoskeletal Oncology Society. Prof Faisham published more than 100 research papers in medical journals and 4 textbooks related to his field. He is also involved actively in management of complex trauma and one of the national recourse persons for advanced trauma management. currently an active member of the school board in USM and a member of the examinations for the National Orthopedics Board. He is also recognized as orthopaedic oncology expert within Asean and Asia Pacific and trained more than 20 national and international orthopaedic oncology fellows. He has been serving Malaysian Orthopaedic Association as executive member for 6 years and became president of MOA in 2017. His research interest mainly focused on survival and functional outcome following surgery of orthopaedic cancer. The surgical method using allograft and vascularised tissue was recognized internationally as trademark of USM. Basic science and proliferative marker growth of giant cell tumour of the bone is another area orthopaedic oncology unit USM champion.

Assoc Prof Dr Zairul Nizam bin Zainol Fithri graduated from University Malaya in 1994 and completed his MS Orth training in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2001. Initially served as orthopaedic lecturer in Universiti Putra Malaysia, he attended subspecialty training in arthroplasty and arthroscopy in Melbourne, Australia between 2004 and 2005. He left UPM in 2007 and went into private practice but still maintained a teaching position in Cyberjaya University College of Medical Science (CUCUMS), now known as University of Cyberjaya. He went back to full-time teaching in 2014 and is currently Associate Professor of Orthopaedics in International Medical University, a post he held since 2021. He still practices privately in KPJ Ambulatory Care Centre, Bandar Kinrara, Puchong.
